Young Scholars Program

The Mont Pelerin Society continues its efforts to involve younger members in the Society and to recruit new Young Scholars who have the potential to become members in the future. As part of that effort, the society is organizing four sessions at the 2022 Biennial Congress and General Meeting in Oslo, Norway for scholars age 35 or younger to present their research.

Call for Papers

The program committee will consider submissions on all topics related to the Society’s aims but is particularly interested in papers that address the meeting’s theme: Liberal Institutions and International Order. We encourage submissions related to our plenary themes:

  • Challenges and Prospects for the Liberal World Order;
  • The New Globalization and The Future of the WTO<;/li>
  • Restating the Case for Liberal Democracy;
  • New Perspectives on Institutions and The Nordic Model(s);
  • Federalism and the Future of the European Union;
  • The Monetary and Financial Framework;
  • Freeing The Captured Economy; and
  • Reinventing Liberalism for the 21st Century.
  • The sessions will be cross-disciplinary in economics and other social sciences.

    The Young Scholars Program sessions will take place in the afternoon on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 prior to the evening reception and opening dinner. These sessions will feature short presentations (15 minutes) by four young scholars in each session. The proposals should be NEW research of the style that one would present at professional association meeting in the appropriate discipline.

    Proposals will be evaluated on the importance of the topic proposed, how it is addressed, how it fits within the conference program theme, and how it fits with other papers proposed by young scholars. To propose a paper, please send the following materials to the MPS Young Scholars Program Committee no later than Sunday, May 15, 2022:

  • A title and proposed abstract of no more than 250 words;
  • CV/Resume; and
  • Proof of age for eligibility.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Completed drafts of the papers will be due no later than Sunday, July 31, 2022.

    Participants in these sessions will benefit from a special reduced Young Scholars registration rate of USD 600. Partial travel scholarships will also be made available to Young Scholars Program participants. Applicants requiring a travel scholarship should make a request in their application email.
